There will be no bidi in future: Finance Minister
Referring to tobacco products as very harmful for health, Finance
Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said that there will be no bidi in
the future.He told reporters after a meeting with representatives of tobacco and
tobacco products companies in the finance ministry on Sunday.Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Senior officials including Najibur Rahman were present.The
Finance Minister said 80 percent of the tobacco market is under the
occupation of other less expensive cigarettes, including bidis. Referring to these tobacco products as very harmful for health, he
said, the government will accept the definitely policy on how they can
be controlled.Responding
to reporters' questions on the initiative of reducing the price of
cigarettes, Muhith said, "The factory owners gave their proposal in this
regard. Now we decide to sit down and decide what to do. "On
the question of whether the bidi would be affected by revenue, the
finance minister said, "There will not be anything like revenue
revenues. However, the demand may decrease if revenue demand decreases a little.
